Local Law Enforcement
Approximately 50 automobiles have been marked with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the German municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.
Cars, exterior walls and postboxes were marked, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they stated in a official communication.
Police report they were alerted during the night on Wednesday night, when a resident discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored fluid.
The fluid had been drawn in the form of a Nazi symbol, they stated.
Police then located many other vandalized automobiles and residential walls in the surrounding area.
Swastikas are illegal in Germany under legislation prohibiting the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.
Officials say early analysis indicate the substance was probably human blood.
"There is still no indication as to its source; authorities are presently not aware of any injuries in relation with the incident," they added.
City officials stated they were working "to resolve the case" and have asked to the residents for tips.
A high-ranking official said the attack rendered him speechless and needed to be resolved promptly.
"This incident affects the center of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the extremist violent incident five years ago," he stated on social media, recalling the killing of nine people by a shooter focusing on residents of foreign heritage in February 2020.
